Some Handy Resources

I wanted to share some sites and writers that deal with the same or related topics, but thought that a simple URL lacked context. I won't say that I agree with everything these people are writing or that it lines up exactly with the peak civilization hypothesis, but some of these have influenced my thinking and might do the same for others.

The Dark Mountain Project

This is perhaps the most thoughtful movement around, in terms of defining what civilizational collapse looks like from an ecological perspective. The hypothesis is that modern civilization is failing and that it's time to start looking at what post-civilization looks like. They further define that the end of our civilization doesn't mean the end of everything, but that it will be radically different from what we experience now. There is a great deal of beautiful art and writing here as well.

Ecosophia

This is John Michael Greer's site. He is a practitioner of druidism and often writes about the decline of civilization from that perspective. His writings are nothing short of brilliant and are well worth the time it takes to fully digest them.

James Kunstler

James Kunstler's earlier writings and rantings were a sharp observation of over-consumption and the general stupidity of a civilization destroying itself with poor decisions and an inability to adapt to changing circumstances and harsh reality. Unfortunately, he has taken to flirting with the alt-right in recent years, I guess for economic and page-view reasons. Still, The Long Emergency and his World Made by Hand novels are great reads.

Rod Dreher

Rod Dreher is a little harder to recommend, as he writes about decline from a conservative religious perspective and may not appeal to readers who strongly support LGBTQ rights or other "woke" positions. On the other hand, I think he has done an excellent job of picking up on the decline of modern civilization (even if it's wrapped in religious and moral terms), and has done well with pointing out the failures of the leadership class in America and the west in general.
